Camp out November 14 at Camp Ynoah

We will be staying at a cabin at Camp Ynoah located in Green. The cost is $20.00 per person. We will be cooking a Thanksgiving Dinner. There will be a $10.00 prize for the best side dish made. So dig out the old family recipes, like green jello with Sardines. All food will be prepared at camp and require some type of cooking (No prepared dish from home will be judged). We will meet at the Moose Lodge by 8:30am on Saturday, November 14. This is a one night campout.

Kamper City on Sat, November 21st

Kamper City has asked if we would do a cooking demonstration with dutch ovens, grills and camp chef products. The demo will at 10:00am to 3:00pm. Kamper City is very supportive of our troop and it will be nice to help them out. We can make plans at the campout on Nov 14 and sign up for different times for the demonstration.

November 25 Kalahari trip information

There is no meeting, but this is the deadline for the Kalahari trip. Kalahari must have full payment before you can go. The total one day trip will cost $45.00 ($24.00 for the swim pass, $5.00 for lunch, $3.50 for the candy bar, and $12.50 for dinner. You must have payment of $36.50 by Nov. 25.
For dinner we will leave Kalahari and go to Ryan's Buffet (1 mile away). This is a all you can eat steak and shrimp plus other food for the $12.50 included in the $45.00 fee. We will then go back to Kalahari until 10pm.

The Pasta dinner is fast approaching. Please get your ticket money turned in by this Wednesday. We are going shopping on Thursday and we will need a general count on how many will be attending so we buy the right amount of supplies. Also, any contributions for the raffle will be great. Dinner starts at 6pm. The boys should arrive by 5pm in their dress shirts.

Cub Scout campout, Oct 9, 10 & 11

Cub Scout Pack #3171 will be camping this weekend at Camp Manatoc. We plan to help at camp by acting as camp staff. Helping to cook, starting fires and as guides. This is a great way to earn community service. Starting time is 6pm on friday at the Gillwell site.

Fishing on Sept 13 and Sept 20

Fishing trip on Lake Erie. Meet at the moose parking lot at 4:45am. We leave the lot at 5am to be at Wildwood State Park by 6:00am, the boat leaves at 7:00am.
You should bring the following; lunch, snacks, drinks, sun block, sea sickness pills or patches. You can bring your own life jacket, but they will supply them on the boat. You must bring a fishing pole. If you need one call Jim Timmons at 330.813.0071. Jim will have hooks ready.
The boat will dock at 2pm, and we will come back to the Moose Club and clean fish and cook some. This is a good opportunity for the fishing merit badge. Bring a camera too and you can work on the photography badge.
P.S. Everyone 16 years old and up must have a fishing license. A one day license is $11.00, and this can be purchased at the Wildwood Marina.

Just a few reminders:

This Saturday, August 15th is our next court of honor. It will be at the Moose Club pavilion. The program will start at 5pm and dinner will be at 6pm. We will be grilling hamburgers and hot dogs. Please bring a side dish to share. The scouts will be awarded their badges from summer camp.
The scouts are going shooting on August 22. If you are interested in going, we will need to know by this Saturday (Aug 15). There will be a sign up sheet at the court of honor.
If you are going fishing on the Sept 13 or Sept 20. The money is due on Saturday, August 15. The scouts are $15.00 and all others are $32.00.

Also, to fill out on-line tour permits, we need the parents who are potential drivers for events (like the shooting event on 08/22) to fill out the form attached. We specifically need the make/model/year of vehicle, # of seat belts, your driver's license, and your insurance on the vehicle per person/incident and property . It typically is $50/$100/$50. Please bring this form with you on Saturday.

I just came home from tonight's scout meeting and we are now booking two fishing trips. September 13 and September 20. I have a list of who wants to go. Now I need everyone to let me know which trip they want to go on the 13th or 20th. Please let me know which day is your choice as soon as you can. The cost is $15 for the scout $32 for anyone else. Just a follow up to Jimmy's phone calls to everyone about the fishing trip being planned for September 13. The trip goes out of Wildwood State Park in Cleveland. We need to have a head count as soon as possible so we can reserve the boat. Please get back to Jimmy either by calling (330) 657-2725 or you can reply to this email. Saturday 06/20 - (Optional) We are meeting at noon on Saturday up at Camp Manatoc, same campsite, Chestnut, to set up the tents and drop off gear.

Sunday 06/21 - 12:30 pm - We are meeting back at our campsite, Chestnut, to start the check-in process. We need everyone there because we cannot check-in unless all scouts are in attendance.

Need to be in Class A uniform shirt, with black neckerchief and the troop shorts that Jill provided for everyone. This is for the photo that cost's $7.00.
Need to bring swimming shorts and towel for the swimmer's test.
Need to bring Health Form (signed by DR) and ALL medications. Each medication needs to be in the official pharmacy bottle or packaging with your name and RX on the bottle. The medical officials at camp will need this during the check in process, so make sure you have it ready and with you.
If your scout is taking Motorboating or a shooting sport, the fee for the gas or ammo is needed during check-in. Make sure you scout has cash available to pay for these.

Wednesday 06/24 - 5:30 - Family Night at camp. Meet at the campsite with the food you are brining. Bring folding chairs. You will be able to see the boys at the flag retreat at 5:45 on the parade field. We will have dinner following this ceremony and at 8:15, a campfire program will be put on by the camp staff.

Saturday 06/27 - 9am Check out.

Memorial Day Prep in Cleveland

We have been asked to support Trevor Hammond's grandfather, who works with the American Legion and the USO, to mark Veteran's graves in preparation for the Memorial Day events at a cemetery in Brooklyn, near Cleveland. We are helping them out of a jam because another boy scout unit backed out at the last minute.

We are planning on meeting at the Moose Club to carpool on Saturday 05/23 at 8am.

Please advise Aaron at 330 352-7821 if you can support this effort by attending. Class A uniform is expected because we will be working alongside other military personnel.

Scout Ski Days Video

This was the first year we took advantage of the Scout Ski Days at Boston Mills/Brandywine Ski Resort. Several of the scouts came down and either learned how to ski or snowboard, or came down for more time on the slopes.

We hope this is a chance for the scouts to learn how to ski before going to Holiday Valley in NY in early March.

Pasta Dinner fundraiser at Sarah's Vineyard

We will be selling tickets for this event for $12 for Adults and $8.00 for children 10 and younger.
We will be selling 200 tickets.
The date is 9/29/08.

We will be meeting early for set-up.
Doors will open at 5:30.
Dinner served by the scouts from 6pm to 7pm.
Clean-up to follow.

We will need all the scouts help as well as parents.

We will need adults to help the scouts at each of the parts of the evening, managing the setting up, preparing and managing food, managing the serving, managing the cleaning up.

We are asking all the parents to try to obtain a raffle item. If you have a contact that can provide a gift certificate for the place where they work or something like that. We are not asking you to go out and buy something. Please advise Aaron what you can find.
We will be having bread, salad, at least 2 sauces for bow-tie pasta, meatballs & sausage (possibly), iced tea, lemonade, coffee and dessert. Since we are in a Winery, wine will be for sale, but the scouts will not be apart of this, the winery will be taking care of this.
We will have numbered tickets to sell starting next Wednesday.
Please start selling now and collecting the money.

Five Mile Hike

Meeting Notes from Summer Camp Meeting

Here are the minutes to tonight's meeting:
Special Note in RED below regarding Medical Check In.
Summer Camp

Saturday 06/14 - Meet at Chestnut Campsite (check out camp map on MooseTroop.com under Useful Stuff) at 10am for early set-up.

May bring your own tent if you don't want to use the Camp's tents.

On Sunday, arrive at camp at noon to finish setting up and be ready to leave campsite promptly at 1pm for check in. Everyone has to be ready at 1pm, no exceptions please.

Must wear FULL SCOUT UNIFORM, including the scout shirt, neckerchief, scout socks, and the new shorts that the troop is selling for $7.00. If you missed the fitting tonight, we will have it again at Sunday's meeting.
Along with your full uniform, you must be ready with your swim trunks to take the swimmers test.
Don't forget to have a water bottle with you at check in and a snack since the process can take several hours.

At check in, we get professional Troop Photo ($7.00 if you want a copy)
Medical Check in - You need to bring all medicine, OTC and Prescription in the original bottle with the scout's name on it. All these medicines must be declared on the health form.

Dining Hall Seating Assignments

If you are chaparoning at camp, please make sure you check in at the Administration building before entering camp to get your wristband.
Wednesday night is Family Night. Be at camp at 5:30. Cathy Bissonette has the sign-up sheet for what you are brining for the Pot Luck Dinner. Make sure to get with her on Sunday's Meeting.

You do not have to stop at the Admin Building on Wed night. I will have wrist bands back at camp waiting for you.

VERY IMPORTANT - HAVE THE SCOUT WEAR A WATCH!!!!
Plan on picking your scout up at 9am on Saturday. If possible, let's plan on leaving as a group. When a scout leaves early, it usually means that the other scouts have to stay behind longer to clean up with less help.
Lastly, please go over the merit badge requirements that your scout is taking. Please surf over to moosetroop.com, click on the merit badge link and review what the requirements are. If there is paperwork or a report that has to be done, please do it before camp.

The last meeting before camp is this Sunday. We will be going over the CPR requirements needed for many of the badges at summer camp.

Irish Fest Coming Up 06/15

06/15 Sun Afternoon - 2pm to 8pm - (8 people needed)

For each shift worked, both Scout and Adult get credit for working. All the money earned will be used for your Scout Fund. This is a great fundraiser that brings in a lot of money for the scouts. Please advise Steve what shifts you can work. We especially need the 10pm - 2pm shift covered.
